BEHAVIOUR:

As you are aware we rent the school premises of St. Cyprian’s. Care and attention must be taken by pupils to conduct themselves in a manner, which will not give rise to any complaints from the staff of St. Cyprian’s Primary School.

On arrival in the morning pupils in the junior and middle school must wait in their class lines in the hall until their teacher arrives to take them to class.

Pupils must wait outside their classrooms until they are invited to enter by their teacher or an adult on duty.

Pupils, together with their teachers should ensure that the classrooms are left tidy and clean after every lesson.

Pupils are not allowed to use mobile phones in school. If they are used during school hours they may be confiscated at the discretion of the teacher or the Head Teacher and the pupil fined.

Pupils are expected to move in a quiet and orderly fashion in the corridors and on the stairs. Running is not allowed within the school building

Fighting amongst pupils, bullying or the use of bad language will not be tolerated in school. The Head Teacher will inform the parents of children involved in such conduct, and together with the parents’ committee appropriate action taken.

IN THE CLASSROOM:

Particular attention must be paid to orderly behaviour, tidy work and good manners.
Pupils are expected to follow the CODE OF CONDUCT created with the pupils, agreed and shared with the staff of St. Cyprian’s Primary School and displayed in every classroom.

SCHOOL BREAK:

There is a half hour break from 11.30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturdays and from 7.15 p.m. to 7:30pm on Tuesdays. Volunteer parents run a healthy NUT FREE tuck shop.
Pupils are not allowed to go in any area, which is out of bounds during break.

ABSENCE:

Pupils are expected to attend regularly. In the event of an unavoidable absence due to illness, a letter must be brought on their return to school and given to the class teacher.

CURRICULUM:

We have developed our own language targets for each year group, which we review annually. We use these together with the curriculum specifically developed for community schools by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus. We also include cultural, religious, geographical and historical themes relating to Greece, Cyprus and the Diaspora. Through an integrated studies approach we work with termly or annual themes incorporating music, dance and drama, which often provide the focus for our annual concerts and celebrations.

SCHOOL CONCERTS:

Concerts and class assemblies form a vital part of each pupil’s overall development and enrichment. They provide opportunities for team building, developing a sense of responsibility, and citizenship as well as assisting in the development of oral/aural skills in the Greek language needed for a good grade at GCSE and Advance level examinations. Therefore pupils are expected to attend and participate in each school concert as part of their course work.

HOMEWORK:

Pupils will be given homework each week in accordance with their age. This can be reading, writing, researching or even thinking; homework is obligatory and not voluntary.

A Homework Diary will be given to each pupil,
in which the homework set can be written.
Parents are expected to sign these homework
diaries each week as an indication to
the teacher that homework has been carried out.

In the event that a pupil is absent from school he or she is expected to find out from his/her classmates what homework has been set.

Where pupils fail to produce homework the teacher will notify the parents, and in writing if necessary.

PROGRESS REPORTS:

Consultation days are held twice a year to discuss pupil progress and set targets for each pupil. Advance notification is given to parents who are expected to attend these days.

Progress reports are given at the end of each term and a more detailed report is prepared for each pupil at the end of the Summer Term

The Head Teacher is available during school hours to discuss any matter of concern to any parent.
